As part of a wider dementia friendly communities campaign across the county in 2016, our Year 8 pupils were given an opportunity from Gloucestershire’s Black Minority Ethnic (BME) Network for Dementia, a multi-agency organisation which works to improve access to memory assessment and community dementia services for people from BME communities, to design a radio advert that captures what dementia is and how it can affect people of all ages. The winning school were to be invited into a radio studio to record their advert which would be played throughout national Dementia Awareness Week.
Our pupil, Maariyah Bhamjee, closely fought the competition with pupils from other schools in Gloucestershire. Whilst she did not win on this occasion her poem was highly commended. Maariyah was also given an opportunity to have her advert recorded and played during Dementia Awareness Week. Well done Maariyah!
