Promoting Safety and Informed Choices through PSHE at AASSG

As part of AASSG’s Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education programme, we are committed to equipping our students with the knowledge and skills needed to make informed choices and responsible decisions.

Understanding risk and recognising danger are crucial aspects of growing up, and we place great emphasis on preparing students for the challenges they may face in the wider world.

Over the past few years, we have been proud to work in partnership with Gloucestershire Constabulary through the SchoolBeat programme—a safeguarding initiative delivered by trained police officers in schools.

The programme consolidates our PSHE curriculum lessons and aims to prevent children from becoming victims of crime by raising awareness of emerging risks and dangers. It also encourages positive decision-making and supports efforts to reduce the likelihood of young people becoming involved in crime.

We have been really fortunate to welcome PC Kim Murphy into our PSHE lessons as part of this initiative. Her engaging sessions have covered a wide range of important topics, including online safety, drugs, vaping, and grooming. Her approachable, friendly, and interactive delivery has made these sessions both informative and enjoyable, and she has built a strong rapport with our students who have loved her animated & enthusiastic style of delivery.

When the SchoolBeat programme came to an end due to budget cuts at Gloucestershire Constabulary, we ensured PC Murphy received the warm send-off she deserved. Our students and staff alike have always appreciated her dedication, warmth, and the positive impact she has made during her time with us.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to PC Murphy for her outstanding contribution to our PSHE curriculum and for empowering our students with the tools to stay safe and make positive life choices.
