Year 10 Fieldwork Trip to Blackpool Brook

Friday 9th May 2025.

Our keen Year 10 Geographers enjoyed a sunny day at Blackpool Brook, near Blakeney in the Forest of Dean to complete their GCSE Geography fieldwork.

They were looking at the river environment and examining changes in the river as it travelled downstream. Students measured and recorded the size of pebbles, width of the channel and the rate of flow at different sites as the river travelled downstream.

Although the river was running low due to the recent dry weather, students became proficient in using equipment like ranging poles and tape measures to collect fieldwork data. Also, being in a river environment helped to bring the physical characteristics of a river to life, and will help with their revision of Physical Landscapes in the UK.
